Ioannina / Greece

Ioannina is the capital of the Greek province of Epirus, in northwestern Greece. The city is located at an altitude of about 480 metres on the western shore of the freshwater lake Pamvotida. The city centre is lined with small streets and historic buildings from the Ottoman, Turkish, period. Especially the quarters on the lakeside transport holidaymakers into an oriental atmosphere. Ioannina skilfully combines tradition with modernity, so that not only those interested in culture, but also connoisseurs and shoppers are in good hands. The city's lakeside promenade allows for extensive and romantic walks, and various water sports such as rowing, kayaking and water skiing are available directly on the lake. First-class restaurants, cafés, bars, souvenir shops as well as theatres and discos round off the variety.
